چکیده

Neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are in the superfamily of the ligand-gated ion channels with an assembly of five subunits (a, bsubunit). nAChRs, such as a4b-and a7-nAChRs play crucial roles in nicotine reward, dependence and withdrawal. Recently, functional profiles of the a5 nAChRs have been studied using the a5 knockout (KO) and the overexpression mice. a5-nAChRs in the brain participate in neuronal activities associate with nicotine dependence, withdrawal, aversion, as well as alcohol use disorders. The main focus of this review is to understand a5-containing nAChR’s properties, function, and related disorders recently discovered. NACHO Mediates Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor Function throughout the Brain.

Neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) participate in diverse aspects of brain function and mediate behavioral and addictive properties of nicotine. Neuronal nAChRs derive from combinations of α and β subunits, whose assembly is tightly regulated. NACHO was recently identified as a chaperone for α7-type nAChRs. Here, we find NACHO mediates assembly of all major classes of presynapt...

Nicotine regulates activity of lateral habenula neurons via presynaptic and postsynaptic mechanisms

There is much interest in brain regions that drive nicotine intake in smokers. Interestingly, both the rewarding and aversive effects of nicotine are probably critical for sustaining nicotine addiction. The medial and lateral habenular (LHb) nuclei play important roles in processing aversion, and recent work has focused on the critical involvement of the LHb in encoding and responding to aversi...

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor and trkB signaling in parasympathetic neurons: relevance to regulating alpha7-containing nicotinic receptors and synaptic function.

Parasympathetic neurons do not require neurotrophins for survival and are thought to lack high-affinity neurotrophin receptors (i.e., trks). We report here, however, that mRNAs encoding both brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its high-affinity receptor tropomyosin-related kinase B (trkB) are expressed in the parasympathetic chick ciliary ganglion (CG) and that BDNF-like protein is pre...

The Effect of Swimming Endurance Exercise on Cell Death and Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor Gene Expression in Brain of Rat: An Experimental Study of Alzheimer's Disease Model

Background and Objectives: Alzheimerchr('39')s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease which is marked by impaired cholinergic function and decreased nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChRs) density. nAChRs are important mediators of cholinergic signaling in modulation of learning and memory function. In Alzheimer hippocampus is particularly vulnerable to specific degenerative processes an...

Cortisol secretion in adult male rats

As a neurotransmitter or neuromodulator, brain histamine has a variety of physiological roles in brain functions such as hypothalamic- pituitary- adrenal (HPA) activity. Histamine induces the release of ACTH through the activation of hypothalamic neurons containing vasopressin and CRH. Histamine induces the activity of HPA axis directly or indirectly. Endogenous opioids modulate the (HPA) axis ...
